We Listen Before—and While—We Treat You

We Listen Before—and While—We Treat You

Listen up. People are not always great listeners. You probably already knew that.

Odds are you have had the experience of telling someone something—maybe something important—and then noticing that they are scrolling on their phone instead of paying attention. Or maybe you have been talking to someone who appears to be listening, but when you pause, they jump in with something unrelated to what you were saying. Or maybe you have had to repeat the same set of instructions over and over to someone who seemingly gets distracted each time you try to make things clear.

And to be fair, you have probably been a bad listener a time or two yourself. We all have.

But there are certain situations in which attentive listening is the single most important thing a person can do. One of those situations would be when someone is explaining why they’re seeking out treatment for a mental health issue.

At Johnstown Heights Behavioral Health, we are absolutely committed to listening to you with our full attention—both when we do an initial assessment and throughout your time in treatment with us.

Let’s take a closer look at what that means for you and for our approach to treating mental health disorders.

We Want to Know Your Story

The first step toward better mental health is going through an assessment to get a sense of where things stand with you right now. And here is some important news: You do not need a referral of any kind to schedule an assessment at Johnstown Heights Behavioral Health. Also, that initial consultation is free.

And what can you expect in that first conversation? First and foremost, you can expect us to listen with our full attention as we learn about you and your current situation. Among the topics we will explore when we first meet you are your personal and family medical history, the current symptoms and issues that are currently challenging you, and your present level of crisis (please note that you do not have to be in crisis to schedule an assessment).

Because of our commitment to hearing you, you can count on us to make recommendations that address your needs and that are grounded in best practices as well as our expertise and experience. Our goal is to personalize your treatment, so we take care never to jump to conclusions or to fall back on predetermined recommendations. This approach—which starts with a real conversation—ensures you get care designed specifically for you.

Once we have completed our assessment, we will suggest the next step that makes the most sense for you.

Different Options for Different Situations

First things first. We may not offer exactly what you need to improve your mental health. Or you might conclude that we are simply not a good fit for you for any number of reasons. In those situations, we will offer our best recommendations for other treatment options and/or treatment providers.

But if you decide to pursue care from Johnstown Heights Behavioral Health, the next step will be determining which of our services will serve you best.

Our services include:

  • Outpatient care: We offer intensive outpatient care for both adolescents and adults. These programs provide a high level of care—they are a step up from, for example, meeting with a therapist weekly—while still providing flexibility so that participants can maintain many of the aspects of their day-to-day life while seeking treatment.
  • Inpatient treatment: Residential treatment brings participants to Johnstown Heights Behavioral Health so that they can receive therapy and treatment around the clock for a period of time. Our adult inpatient program treats those who are experiencing acute symptoms of a psychiatric disorder that requires immediate and around-the-clock care.
  • Substance Use Detoxification: Johnstown Heights also offers medically supervised detoxification and counseling for those struggling with a substance use disorder. Frequently, substance use disorders and mental health disorders are intertwined, and we have the experience and expertise necessary to help you regain your sobriety while also working toward better mental health.

Again, our commitment to hearing you out and to personalizing your care for your specific needs gives you the best opportunity to experience the improvements that will make a difference in your life—and in the lives of those who love you and want to support you and your mental health.
